| SERVICE PROJECTS We strive to make a difference in our community and provide a positive example for our children through meaningful service projects. Each year the club organizes at least one fundraiser and/or community service project to benefit a local children's charitable organization. The charity is selected by membership vote. Current Projects The club is planning to participate in its 3rd annual Read for Record event. The club also plans to hold a fundraiser in Spring 2010 to benefit a local children's charitable organization. If you have any questions or comments about any of our future service projects please contact our Service Project Committee. Past Projects On Sept 2007 and Oct 2008, our chapter organized and sponsored a Read for the Record community event as part of a nationwide effort to break the world record for the largest shared reading experience and raise public awareness about early education and literacy. Plans included fun & yummy treats, music, craft, and reading of the official campaign book. For more info, click here. Spring 2006 the membership organized a fundraiser to benefit WarmLine Family Resource Center in Placer County, an organization that provides free help and resources to parents when their child is first diagnosed as having a special need. Because autism is on the rise (now affecting 1 in 100 kids), they are in desperate need of special books and DVDs to help parents facilitate communication with children having austism spectrum disorder. We raised over $1,100 to buy autism materials for the parent lending library. For more information about the event, please see the article in the Granite Bay View. |
